Overconfidence can be dangerous and lead to negative consequences. When people are overconfident, they tend to be careless and make miscalculations that can cause unforeseen consequences. Overconfident people tend to have higher status, but they also tend to underestimate risks and refuse to listen to advice. Hubris, which is excessive pride and confidence, can lead to a variety of issues, including growing out of touch with reality, eliciting negative reactions from others, and taking risky and reckless decisions. Hubris can cause leaders to significantly overreach themselves, taking decisions that are harmful to themselves and others.

If you sell yourself as a media celebrity, you should expect public scrutiny. Celebrities, athletes, and politicians use social media to tout their brand, but they try to steer clear when the ridicule comes their way. Celebrities have a right of publicity to control the commercial value of their name, likeness, voice, signature, or other personal identifying information. Despite public scrutiny, consumers still love celebrity content, and brands that used celebrities in Instagram posts saw 1.5 times more traffic in 2020 compared to 2019. Therefore, if you sell yourself as a media celebrity, you should be prepared for public scrutiny and take steps to protect your reputation and personal brand.
